GLENCOE
This Celtic piece was inspired by a distant view from the estate of Alnwick Castle, the
home of the Duke of Northumberland. David was a guest of Lord James Percy, the Duke’s
brother who had taken him on a tour of the castle and its vast estate. During his visit and
whilst in the library with Lord James David was shown the original book by Charles Darwin
on the Origin of the Species, something he will never forget. The Celtic melody came to
mind in the weeks following this memorable day and the title was inspired by knowledge of
Glencoe, its history and scenic beauty.
