THE REFUGEES LAMENT
This Lament was written after David had watched a documentary on the
displacement of ordinary people and families during the recent Balkan conflict. He, like most of us,
was genuinely moved by the plight of these poor people as they fled their homes and villages in fear
with their meagre possessions tied up in pitiful bundles on hand carts. The Lament was composed to represent the sadness he felt for those millions
of displaced refugees past and present and the stark melody for solo cello invokes the tragedy of
their plight and portrays mans inhumanity to man.
